Artist Profile:Â Born in Paris in 1956, Chittrovanu Mazumdar studied painting in Ecole des Beaux Arts before attending the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Calcutta, where he graduated with First Class First honors in painting in 1981. Notable solo exibitions include the show New Work, at the Seagull Gallery, Kolkata (2004); Recent work at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; Bose Pacia Modern, New York (1997); Victoria Memorial Durbar Hall and Sukh Sagar, Kolkata (1991); and at the Academy of Fine Arts presented by the Seagull in Kolkata (1985). Recent group exibitions include Altered Realties, at Aicon Gallery Palo Alto (2006); a group show at Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata (2005); Of Memories, Dreams, Reveries, Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi (2003); The Human Factor, Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai; and The Search Within, Art Between Implosion and Explosion, Austria, New Delhi, and Mumbai. The artists’ work has also been featured in historically significant exibitions, such as Wounds, a protest against communal violence organized by CIMA in Calcutta (1993); and the exibition for the African National Congress on the occasion of Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday presented by Seagull at Calcutta Information Centre in Calcutta (1988). Chittrovanu Mazumdar lives and works in Calcutta, now Kolkata, India.
